National Agrarian and Popular Mobilization
COLOMBIA   October, 2007

The state capitalist policies that have exploited the peoples of the world, have generated the worst conditions known to humanity. In Colombia , the interests of capital and the empire are represented by and applied through the policies, laws, programs and government actions of Alvaro Uribe Vélez and seriously affect the life of the nation and especially that of the popular sectors.

Through this mobilization, the popular sector of society, peasant farmers, Indigenous communities, displaced peoples, Afro Colombians, workers and students among others, will show the world that Colombia is not what is being showcased in the media. The government tries to present a false picture, both nationally and internationally, spending great sums of money for this purpose. Many sectors of the Colombian society are demanding that Uribe Velez resigns for being an illegal and illegitimate government. It is illegal, because he won the elections through the pressure of the paramilitaries and electoral and electronic fraud; illegitimate, because his projects and actions represent the interest of a minority of this country that attempt openly against the well-being of the majority of the Colombian people.

Different social sectors of Colombia will mobilize during three days of national protest in October. This mobilization is being organized in spite of threats and actions taken against us by the state's military and paramilitary groups who want to stop us. In spite of the repression, we will continue our movement and ask for the solidarity of communities, organizations and democratic peoples of the world.

We know that our just demands will cause a violent and brutal response from the state, but we hope that the peoples of the world will break the silence and show their solidarity in every way possible against the brutality that this regime has historically applied to the Colombian people.

WHY ARE THE COLOMBIAN PEO PLE MOBILIZING?

The crisis in Colombia requires that the people take a position against the current regimen of poverty and terror, demanding the immediate resignation of Alvaro Uribe Velez.

His government has imposed the model of a "community state" with an integral strategy called “the strategy for the strengthening of democracy and social development”. This combines a plan for war that affects all of the popular sectors of society, called “democratic security, and plans of development and peace”.

The combination and systematic development of these menacing actions by the government, assures that the property of the rich is maintained and grows, that the borders of capital are extended, ending the peasant farmer’s  and indigenous community’s plots; it gives out our natural resources to the transnational corporations; markets goods that are communally held, privatizes and worsens the services of state companies that serve the people (education, health, communications and public services); intends to cover with impunity and strengthen the state paramilitary politics that in Colombia comprise an economic, electoral and military sectors; intends to impose and legalize the mechanisms for impunity and systematic violation of international rights, eliminating the possibility of a real political solution to the social and armed conflict in the country.

The level of misery in Colombia has increased. Peasant farmers, Afro Colombians, indigenous communities and peasant colonizers do not have land to farm and have been displaced to the cities. Land and money are concentrated in the hands of the few, workers lack fair labor policies, our strategic natural resources are being robbed, and the levels of quality education and health care are constantly lowered while their access is decreasing due to the increasing costs of these services. State commercial and social companies have been sold to the private sector at laughable prices; people in the countryside as well as in the cities are being selectively assassinated, massacred, disappeared or displaced in order to reorganize the society according to the needs of world capital. All these and more is done with the support of the military that attacks its own people. The military at this very moment is being directed by mercenaries who are supported by the Para-political system of the State that is annihilating the Colombian people by different means.

We call upon the national and international community to support and participate in this mobilization, uniting our bodies and hearts in these actions that will take place in different cities around the world, by spreading information, and voicing your protest to the Casa de Nariño (presidential residence), press agencies, inter-government organizations, the Congress of the USA, the European Parliament and the offices of the transnational corporations with interests in Colombia. The Colombian embassies and the central offices of the transnational corporations committed to the Colombian crisis should understand the repudiation that humanity feels for their action against the Colombian people. Let it be known!
